Under certain conditions, an applicant will demonstrate a particular need to study at the Design Studies Institute without entering into a non-degree professional certificate program or a degree-granting academic program. In these cases, a student will be able to register at the Design Studies Institute under the status as a Visiting Student.
Every application for Visiting Student status is reviewed by the admission committee on a case-by-case basis. Applicants for Visiting Student status must meet the same application deadline dates as applicants who seek to enter into a non-degree professional certificate program or a degree-granting academic program.
Visiting Student status is valid for one academic year. Students who wish to continue as Visiting Students beyond one year must submit a new application for each subsequent academic year. There is no limit to the number of times a student may reapply for Visiting Student status.
Visiting Students pay the same fees as students enrolled in degree-granting academic programs and non-degree professional certificate programs.
Course registration for Visiting Students occurs on a space-available basis following the completion of registration for students enrolled in degree-granting academic programs and non-degree professional certificate programs. Visiting Students may enroll for a combined maximum of 12 credit hours and 15 continuing education units across all periods of enrollment as a Visiting Student.
If a Visiting Student wishes to exceed the credit hour or continuing education unit limit, they will need to place an application to enter into a non-degree professional certificate program or a degree-granting academic program. If a Visiting Student ultimately enrolls into a non-degree professional certificate program or a degree-granting academic program, courses taken at the Design Studies Institute as a Visiting Student may sometimes, but not always, be credited towards the credential.
