The Design Studies Institute is dedicated to fostering an academic environment that encourages and promotes discovery, which is grounded in a respect for intellectual property rights.
Students of the Design Studies Institute own the intellectual property rights to the work they create, whether the work was done as part of coursework in the classroom or during personal time. Notwithstanding student ownership of intellectual property, the Design Studies Institute shall retain a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, reproduce, store, and display student works created within the scope of Institute-affiliated academic activities solely for instructional, archival, accreditation, quality assurance, and regulatory purposes. This license does not permit commercial exploitation of the student's work by the Design Studies Institute without the student's prior written consent. Students retain the right to use, display, reproduce, distribute, and commercially exploit their work in any manner they choose.
Student projects that are industry-sponsored by a company or third-party entity, or that receive financial support from the Design Studies Institute may be required to waive certain specified rights in accordance with the ownership of intellectual property rights. These terms must be set forth in writing in advance of the project and these projects must be disclosed to the Institute.
Any intellectual property disputes arising under this policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Anguilla. All rights are reserved to the student creator unless otherwise specified by written agreement.
