Ricardo Dutra is a social designer, researcher, and educator working across diverse global contexts. His work lies at the intersection of social design, arts-based research, and education, with a particular interest in working across diverse epistemes, including epistemologies of the Global South, and embodied, felt, and sensorial ways of knowing. Ricardo is a University Lecturer in Arts-based Social Practice in the Department of Art and Media at Aalto University, Finland. He also collaborates internationally through graduate teaching, doctoral supervision, and research, and is a Guest Researcher at the Interpresence Institute, Umeå University. He holds an MFA in Transdisciplinary Design from Parsons School of Design, New York, and a PhD in Design for Education from Monash University, Melbourne.

Alongside his academic work, Ricardo is the co-founder of the creative residency programme Studio Atelierista, which activates awareness-based collective creativity through social arts residencies in diverse international contexts. He is also the Research Lead of the WellSpaces Network, a European initiative that supports young people in moving from alienation and isolation towards wise agency in response to contemporary societal challenges, including the erosion of trust, democratic fragmentation, and the loss of collective agency. Both initiatives are funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
